Diary Of A Quarantined Mom: The News & Day 1

Sunday March 15th, 2020.

I had been hearing a lot of buzz about this virus called Coronavirus. Apparently it started in China and now Italy is being hit pretty hard as well. We don’t have cable television or really any connection to local media aside from social media so I had been trying to stay a little bit naïve. I should have known it would catch up with me at some point. What I know so far is that people are freaking out and there is no toilet paper available. Literally, no toilet paper available because hoarders are buying too much that now they’ve put a rule on 1 per person at Costco.

We went to Nana’s house…well, my mom’s house, my kid’s Nana. We decided to join them for dinner tonight and then got word that Nova’s school is cancelled for the next week. Oh man, sh*@s getting real people! I don’t really understand the hype yet, maybe I will, maybe I won’t. It takes a lot to ruffle my feathers with this kind of stuff. Other stuff, oh my feathers can get ruffled easy. Ha! I told Eric that we need to pay Haley, our nanny more this week since she will be watching both of the kids. Kade, my 14-year-old brother overheard me. On our way out the door he said “hey, we can keep the kids this week since we don’t have school either. Then, you don’t have to pay anything!” It was so darn sweet. And people say we are doomed with the youth of today. Today, I disagree.

Auntie Maggie’s wedding is supposed to be next week. Man, I hope that is still on. Right now, they are recommending that we don’t gather in groups of 50 or more, so I’m thinking she will still have a small ceremony but who in the world knows. I’ve never known school to close unless there is a blizzard, so it’s a little crazy to witness this pandemic sweep through. We have 1 positive Coronavirus case in North Dakota right now. So, as of now it’s still safe to drink Corona. Not sure if that will continue or not, but I think I’ll stick with White Claw.

We got home and turned on the press conference with Governor Burgum. He just issued an executive order to close all K-12 schools in the state. What in the stinkin’ world…is this really happening? Yes, my thoughts are that of a 4-year-old. He also said that we need to “social distance” ourselves. That’s a new one for me, but apparently it means we need to stay in our houses and out of public places. I’m an extrovert. I wanted to punch him in the face. So, just like that Eric and I and our 2 kids will be at home all week. Haley will no longer be coming this week at all. I’m pretty sure I need a week to digest what I just heard. Oh, and did I mention I’m intermittent fasting? Yeah, that may not continue. Ahh shit and I just realized we are almost out of toilet paper.

Welp, that’s enough virus talk for today because it’s Netflix time. Adios.

Well, today was day 1. Or, so they say. But, in our world it was truly day 9000. I kid, I kid, but Nova has been off school since last Thursday so really it is day 5. Lord help us.

Mojo, the gym I teach at is still open so guess where mama went for a 9am class!? Yahoo! I needed that little sweat session to find motivation to knock out some work.

Shortly after I left the gym, I got the message that Mojo was closing for the next two weeks. When life gets crazy, fitness keeps me sane. Good luck my precious little family. Mama’s about to go loco.

My phone did not stop ringing today. Stock markets are plummeting, Coronavirus cases are rising, and if you watch the news you truly do feel like the world is ending. I mean, could be. I could come back to this in a few days and go “you were a prophet Angel, you knew all along.” Or, I’ll read this next year and go “yep, mama did go loco.”

I signed a new client last night. When you run your own business and the world is potentially ending, you celebrate that sh*@! Socially acceptable air high fiving myself right now. Also, even when the world is not ending, you celebrate that. *note to self*

I renewed our vehicle registrations today. Eric got a ticket a couple weeks ago because once again we forgot to renew them. Enjoying the fact that we literally have no sh*@s together at this moment in time. But, crossed one thing off my to do list!

Ordered us some fresh juices from my favorite JuiceBoxFargo. I mean, pandemic and all, we gotta stay healthy.

Our dishwasher stopped working about a week ago. We’ve been putting off buying another one, but I broke down and bought one today. It says we should have it by Friday. We shall see, but by this rate the world will be over by Friday and I’ll never have to worry about it…or the toilet paper we still need.

Nova and I played a new game of don’t you dare smile. She ended up punching my phone. The game ended abruptly after that.

Laura sent me Hawaiian coffee and an adorable coffee mug for my birthday and I got it today! Perfect timing.

Monday’s I usually stay home with Knox, so this isn’t so bad. I can do this. Crushed a workout, got a lot of work done, signed a new client (and possibly another one tomorrow!). You can do this, Angel.
