I have always had a hard time slowing down. That changed a lot when I had Nova.
Though I am still very much a “get it done” type of person, I have become more laid back and slower paced.
It helps to have a laid back husband who takes things in stride.
The other day we had one of our first rain storms of the season. These have always been one of my favorite things and I attribute it to the times growing up on the farm that my parents would ask us to pray for rain for the crops.
We sat in the garage with the door open and watched the rain come down. Nova has always liked the rain too and asked to use her umbrella and to “dance in the rain”. She proceeded to get wet even though she had her umbrella and giggled the entire time. The rain slowly dissipated and she wanted to keep dancing. I suggested we jump through puddles. Memories of stripping down to our undies and running through puddles on the farm flooded back and the joy in her face was a joy I knew so well.
We changed outfits midway through and put boots on. I was happily watching as she splashed in the puddles and giggled uncontrollably. Then a screech of “mama come splash WITH me!” I immediately set my camera down…on the wet sidewalk…and splashed with her.
She got muddy.
She got wet.
I got wet.
We made memories.
And then we went inside as she had a meltdown about not wanting to eat or go to bed.
